InsightIndex

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about InsightIndex.study — our sources, privacy practices, and how to get the most out of the tool.

What is InsightIndex.study?

InsightIndex.study is a free, AI-powered medical research tool that simultaneously queries authoritative databases — including PubMed/NCBI, WHO, FDA, CDC, Cochrane Library, Africa CDC, and AJOL — and synthesises the results into readable, sourced insights for clinicians and students.

Is InsightIndex.study free to use?

Yes, completely free. There is no account, paywall, or subscription required. You can run as many searches as you need without signing up.

Which medical databases does InsightIndex.study search?

We simultaneously query 8+ major health databases: NCBI PubMed, openFDA, CDC, WHO, Cochrane Library, African Index Medicus, AJOL (African Journals Online), Africa CDC, PACTR, HINARI, and several regional African medical journals. This gives you both global and Global-South coverage in a single search.

Does InsightIndex.study store my search data or personal information?

No. We do not store, log, or share your queries. There are no user accounts, no cookies for tracking, and no search history. Your data disappears the moment you close the tab.

Is the information on InsightIndex.study medical advice?

No. InsightIndex.study surfaces published, peer-reviewed research only. It is an information tool, not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for personal health decisions.

How does the AI Synthesis feature work?

After fetching results from the source databases, our AI layer reads the abstracts and synthesises key themes, patterns, and findings into a structured summary. Each claim links directly back to the original source document (e.g., nih.gov or fda.gov) so you can verify everything independently.

What is Student Mode?

Student Mode presents results with additional educational context — including pathophysiology, clinical reasoning, and exam-style explanations — tailored for medical, nursing, and pharmacy students preparing for clinical placements or licensing exams.

How current is the medical literature shown?

Our tool queries live APIs in real time, so results reflect the latest publications and data releases available in each source database at the time of your search. There is no cached or stale index.

Can I search for African or Global-South specific research?

Yes. InsightIndex.study was built with Global-South coverage as a core priority. We specifically include Africa CDC, AJOL, PACTR, African Index Medicus, and regional journals such as EAMJ, NMJ, and SAMJ, which are often omitted by Western-centric search tools.

Is there a public API I can use?

Yes. We offer a documented REST API for developers and researchers who want to integrate InsightIndex results into their own applications. See the API Documentation page for endpoints, parameters, and example requests.

Still have questions?

Read our Methodology page for a deeper dive into how our federated search engine and AI synthesis layer work, or check the API Documentation for developer integration details.
